About Us

by Sarah Nguyen

Help First Guide prepares people for the first time they contact a benefits office, an insurance program or a nonprofit assistance service. We concentrate on the practical side of that first contact: the documents usually requested, the questions commonly asked, how intake conversations tend to run, and what to expect for timelines and next steps.

If the process is new to you, whether that means applying for public benefits, calling an insurance claims line or asking a nonprofit for help, these guides are for you. Not knowing what comes next is stressful, and the point is to take some of that uncertainty away so you go into the first conversation better prepared.

We offer general information only, not professional, legal, medical or financial advice. Each organization and location runs its programs differently, and requirements change, so confirm the current details with the program or provider you are contacting.
